Globalising the Mediterranean’s Iron Age
A Festival Hellenika event presented by the Director of the Australian Archaeological Institute at Athens.
Professor Tamar Hodos, a world authority on the archaeology of the Mediterranean during the first half of the first millennium BCE, with particular focus on the impact of migration and mobility, and the construction and expression of social identities. The Mediterranean’s Iron Age – roughly 1200-600 BCE – may be regarded as one of its most dynamic periods of history. This talk tracks interpretations of the Mediterranean Iron Age from its colonialist origins through post-colonial perspectives to explore how contemporary globalisation theories are transforming our understandings of this culturally complex and socially vibrant era.
