Description

DANCE. Done Differently

Presented by Festival Hellenika

Early 20th Century Innovators in Modern Dance & the Greek Ideal. Presented by Joanna Tsalikis.

This presentation examines how Modern Dance evolved in the early 20th Century through the impact of three dance innovators: Isadora Duncan, Vaslav Nijinsky and Martha Graham. These choreographers aimed to create a more naturalistic and highly expressive dance style by challenging the formal technique of Classical Ballet. All three choreographers were profoundly influenced by the spirit of Ancient Greece.

Dance Production

A contemporary and neo-classical work performed by the Adelaide Ballet Company, bringing an innovative interpretation to celebrated Greek composers, lyricists and poets. The theme of Hades and Persephone (darkness & light) is loosely woven into this performance, with eclectic pieces that have marked the Hellenic soul. It’s edgy and ethereal. It’s fearless & unapologetic.
