Antigone in the Amazon

Fri, 15 March 2024 - Sun, 17 March 2024Australia/Adelaide
Festival Dr, Adelaide SA 5000

Join us for an immersive theatre experience, as critically acclaimed Swiss director Milo Rau presents his contemporary take on the classic Greek tragedy, Antigone

Presented by Adelaide Festival

Proudly supported by Festival Hellenika

Through a blend of captivating storytelling, evocative music, film, and on-stage drama, Rau masterfully transports the epic tale to a present-day Amazonian village in Brazil.

Antigone’s heroic protest is restaged by Brazilian activists and members of Belgian city theatre NTGent’s global ensemble in this innovative new work.

Milo Rau creates a political Antigone for the 21st century, working together with Brazilian and European actors, musicians and indigenous activists.

Come prepared to see, hear, feel, and think like never before!

Not one video that doesn’t hit the mark. Not one word that does not enhance the images. Not one movement on stage that does not resonate with the images. The realisation sets in that theatre, when it moves so far out of its comfort zone, makes one experience and understand something that is so much bigger than itself.

The real surprise in Mario Banushi is that he is not just a promising young creator: he is a mature artist
